Deciduous shrub or small tree. Compact twiggy growth making a globe-shaped tree up to 2m in 10 years. Bright red leaves in spring. Deep maroon in summer turning crimson-red in autumn. Best in deep fertile soil in sun or shade. Best used as a specimen plant in the border or pot and not crowded out by other plants. Shelter from strong winds.
